Karnataka Sculptor's Ram Lalla Idol Chosen for Ayodhya Temple: Minister's Confirmation

The sanctum sanctorum of the grand Ram Temple will have a 51-inch idol depicting a five-year-old Ram Lalla

The Ram Lalla idol, set to grace the Ayodhya temple, has been confirmed by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi. According to Mr. Joshi, the idol has been skillfully carved by the renowned sculptor Arun Yogiraj. However, an official announcement from the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teertha Kshetra trust, responsible for overseeing the temple's construction, is awaited.

In Mr. Joshi's post titled "Hanuman is where Ram is," he highlighted the significance of the idol being carved by a sculptor from Karnataka, the land associated with Lord Hanuman. According to Hindu mythology, Hanuman's birthplace is believed to be in present-day Karnataka. In Valmiki's Ramayana, Hanuman mentions his birthplace as Gokarna, now situated in the Uttara Kannada district. Additionally, it's widely believed that Anjanadri Parvatha, a hill near Hampi and along the left bank of the Tungabhadra river, holds significance as Hanuman's birthplace.

This connection between the sculptor's origin in Karnataka, associated with Lord Hanuman, and the creation of the idol for the Ayodhya temple underscores the spiritual bond between Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman, as per Mr. Joshi's post.

The minister shared that the idol for Lord Rama in Ayodhya has been chosen. It's a creation by a well-known sculptor, Mr. Arun Yogiraj, who hails from Karnataka. This idol, meticulously carved by Mr. Yogiraj, will be placed in Ayodhya. The minister highlighted the deep bond between Lord Rama and Lord Hanuman, mentioning that this selection is a significant contribution from Karnataka, recognized as Hanuman's land.

The idol selection for the Ram Temple's sanctum sanctorum has been finalized. Renowned sculptor Arun Yogiraj's creation, depicting a five-year-old Ram Lalla in a 51-inch idol, has been chosen. From three designs considered, this idol was selected after a trust meeting where members were captivated by its divine aura. The trust members, when questioned about the selection criteria, expressed that the chosen idol had a captivating essence, speaking to them in a mesmerizing way. Secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, Champat Rai, stated that the idol, embodying the divine presence of Ram Lalla, was the primary consideration for the Pran Pratishtha, the consecration ceremony on January 22, to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The news of Arun Yogiraj's idol being chosen for the Ayodhya temple has brought immense joy to his family. His wife, Vijetha Yogiraj, shared their excitement, feeling that their aspirations have been fulfilled. She described her husband's dedication to his craft, working tirelessly for long hours on significant projects, ensuring perfection in every creation. She mentioned his commitment to creating Lord Ram's idol, mentioning his dedication and belief that Lord Ram's guidance was essential in the process. Mr. Yogiraj had expressed the challenge and his determination to carve until he found Lord Ram within the idol.

The members of the Ram Temple trust have declined to confirm whether the entry from the Karnataka sculptor has been selected. A trust member informed NDTV that until an official announcement is made by Mr. Rai, the secretary of the temple trust, everything remains speculative. Sources indicated that Mr. Rai is expected to conduct a press conference to formally declare which idol has been chosen.
