Due to the chilly weather, schools in Delhi for students up to Class 5 will be closed for the next five days.
The Delhi government changed its mind about extending the winter break in schools across the city. They initially said the vacation would be longer but quickly changed their decision. The Education Department explained that the earlier order extending the break was a mistake. They were supposed to make a final decision about it on January 8th.
The Arvind Kejriwal government changed its decision about extending the winter break until January 10 for schools in Delhi. They canceled the earlier order right away and mentioned they might give more instructions about this later. The earlier decision was because of the very cold weather and a warning from the IMD (India Meteorological Department) about cold waves.
On January 6, people in Delhi experienced overcast skies and foggy weather. The temperature during the day reached a high of 15.2 degrees Celsius, while in the early morning, it dropped to a low of 8.9 degrees.
The weather in Delhi has been quite cold recently. On January 2, the minimum temperature was 8.3 degrees Celsius, just slightly above normal. Earlier, it was even colder with a recorded minimum of 6 degrees Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The RWFC Delhi predicted that there could be dense to very dense fog at some places and very cold conditions in Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi until January 7.
Start of Winter Vacation
Due to very bad air pollution in Delhi, the government decided to change the dates for the December winter break in schools. Now, the break will be from November 9th to November 18th instead of the originally planned dates.
